Degel HaTorah MKs on Tuesday are expected to meet with Maran Rav Elyashiv Shlita, to update the Gadol Hador on the ongoing coalition negotiations with Likud. They will ask the Rav to make a decision pertaining to the difficult issues still being negotiated in coalition talks.
Later in the day, at about 7pm, the Rav will meet with the rabbonim who he appointed to probe the civil marriage legislation and the ramifications of approving such a move for non-Jewish couples. The major stumbling block here is that the bill does not make any provisions for a Jew who declares he is a non-Jew from getting married in a civil ceremony instead of in accordance to halacha. The bill also has gedolim concerned; fearful it may lay the foundation for petitions to the High Court, seeking to overturn the current religious status quo regarding weddings based on the precedent for non-Jews established by the law.
After Rav Elyashiv meets with the rabbonim, he will then meet again with Degel MKs and most likely instruct them as how to proceed in coalition talks.
