The IDF is a Major Environmental Offender

Environmental Ministry officials have sent a letter to the appropriate military commands regarding the unacceptable condition on a number of military bases, demanding the situation posing environmental hazards be rectified.

The violations address improper disposal of wastes resulting in gross violations of laws intended to prevent land contamination. This includes but is not limited to motor oils and other major contaminants, which the ministry insists are discarded on bases without any regard to the surrounding area and insult to the environment.

Ministry officials accuse the IDF of being among the major environmental offenders in Israel, vowing the new administration will not continue the passive attitude that has existed to date, but plans to aggressively pursue the issue until the military complies with standards dictated by the law.

In a statement released by the IDF, officials reject the allegations, insisting the IDF is among the most conscious government agencies concerning environmental issues.

  1. Most definitely the IDF should be reprimanded. They are supposed to protect the land (we all know better than that), not defile it – literally.

The Environmental Ministry is absolutely correct here.
