More Rain Adds To Sullivan County Woes

Flooding creeks, which have dampened Sullivan County since last Wednesday, continued to overflow as more rain fell Sunday.

While the worst of a storm that moved across the Northeast Sunday hit south of the Hudson Valley, parts of Sullivan received up to 0.75 inches of rain, according to AccuWeather meteorologist Carl Erickson.

The county issued a flash- flood warning until 3 p.m., as heavy rains fell on Roscoe, Livingston Manor, Callicoon, Youngsville, Jeffersonville and other communities.

County Manager David Fanslau said just before noon that small creeks, streams and areas with poor drainage were flooding in several communities. At about 6 p.m., crews were working at Callicoon Creek, which flooded again Sunday. Roads were closed in the area, but no homes were evacuated.

The Little Beaverkill barely jumped its banks, and the Willowemoc stayed its course Sunday.

This week’s weather should provide a bit of respite for water-logged residents. Erickson forecast sun and heat for Monday and Tuesday, with a chance of showers late Tuesday into Wednesday.
