Rav Ovadia Yosef Shlita will be visiting former Shas minister Rav Shlomo Benizri in Massiyahu Prison, Ladaat reports. While the visit is intended to boost the morale of the former minister, undoubtedly, the Rav will visit with all the prisoners in the torah wing of the prison, an area for shomer shabbos prisoners.

Senior Israel Prison Authority officers are expected to be on hand, with officials reporting a small number of people will be permitted to escort the Rav.  

In a related matter, Migdal Ha’emek Chief Rabbi Dovid Grossman Shlita visited Chermon Prison in the north to stop in on Avraham Hirschson, a former finance minister, who also recently began serving a prison sentence. The rabbi visited the prison to address the inmates, and used the opportunity to visit with Hirschson. Rabbi Grossman is known for his efforts towards rehabilitating prison inmates.
