Report: Iran’s Secret Nuclear Arms Plan

According to British intelligence officials, Iran has been working to secretly design a nuclear warhead since late 2004 or early 2005, the Financial Times reports. The report indicates this would indicate Tehran has embarked on the “final stages” of completion of a nuclear weapon. It appears British intelligence officials believe that Iran’s religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, ordered the resumption of the nuclear program four years ago.

While American intelligence community officials remain firm in their assessment, that Iran halted the nuclear program in 2003 and only resumed in 2007, British officials are more inclined to agree with Israel, that the program was more aggressive than assessed by the United States and Tehran is currently nearing nuclear independence.
