Security Council to Discuss Goldstone Report Next Week

gold1.jpgThe UN Security Council has turned down a Libyan request to hold an urgent special session to discuss the report filed by the Goldstone Commission, the UN Human Rights Organization investigation into Israel’s counter-terrorist offensive in Gaza last year. The commission found that Israel is guilty of war crimes in the IDF’s actions against Gazan citizens.

The Security Council did however decide that the report will be discussed next week when it convenes in regular session to discuss Mideast affairs. The United States is expected to object to raising the report in the Security Council forum.

At the same time, Israel is expected to raise the issue of Iran’s ongoing nuclear program and Tehran’s decision to shun the international community and UN sanctions intended to bring a halt to uranium enrichment efforts.
