Shabavnikim, numbering in the tens, held their own ‘second hakofos’ on motzei shabbos outside Toldos Aaron in the Meah Shearim area of Yerushalayim. A 55-year-old Bnei Brak man was injured, transported to the hospital in serious condition, with a head injury.

At least ten of the unruly participants were taken into police custody at about 4:00am, apparently after they became violent, accusing Toldos Aaron of interfering with their celebration and ordering the yomtov ushers to control them and prohibit them from entering the beis medrash. Reports indicate the violent youths threw fireworks and rocks at the Toldos Aaron Beis Medrash.

According to a Chareidim report, the injured man was fleeing the area, realizing as the police moved in the situation was growing increasingly violent, but a member of the Yassam tactical unit struck him across his head with a baton. Hatzolah volunteers report they resuscitated the victim, who was transported to the trauma unit of Hadassah Ein Kerem Hospital in serious condition.

Police on Sunday morning signaled they plan to request extending the remand of the detainees as well as prosecuting them to the fullest extent of the law.
