Yitzchak Levanon was appointed as Israel�s next ambassador to Egypt, replacing Shalom Cohen.�Cohen has been waiting for a replacement for over a year, but no one has really been lining up for the appointment.

Levanon, 65, is a 38-year veteran of the Foreign Ministry, currently the ministry�s Arabic spokesman.� He has served as ambassador to the UN in Geneva as well as consul general in Boston and Canada. The cabinet is expected to approve the appointment at Sunday�s weekly meeting.
