Germany Joins USA and Others in Opposing Construction in Gilo

The office of German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Monday echoed the United States and other Western nations in condemning Israel’s planned construction of 900 housing units in the southern capital, in the Gilo neighborhood.

Spokesman Ulrich Wilhelm told reporters at a regularly scheduled media conference that Germany “greatly regrets” the move, calling it a “major stumbling block to peace efforts”.

The announcement has set the tone for next week’s state visit to Berlin by Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu and other government officials.

Not waiting to hear details of a deal, Minister of Religious Services (Shas) Yaakov Margi announced that he will support a deal, blindly, since he trusts the leaders responsible for making such decisions.
