The Unfolding Case Involving Yarkon District Cops & Commanders

The Tel Aviv Magistrate’s Court on Tuesday extended the remand of three Yassam policemen assigned to the Yarkon District for four days. They are accused of beating a 27-year-old Arab resident of Chevron. The victim, who was involved in a car theft, filed a complaint against police with the Justice Ministry Police Investigations Unit while jailed.

12 policemen from the Yarkon were questioned already this week, some remaining in custody while others were released to house arrest. Investigators have established some of the suspect cops discussed their statements in advance to prepare for questioning – making certain they do not contradict one another. One investigator is quoted anonymously by the daily Yisrael HaYom explaining they are working on getting one of the defendants to agree to become a state witness, to testify against the guilty cops.

Many Yarkon area police were on hand in court in a showing of support for their fellow officers. Israel Radio reported on Wednesday that the district commander is on the list of those slated to be questioned in the widening investigation.

  1. You can’t really blame these Yassamniks,
I’m sure they thought the arab was a Jew.
They know there’s no problem with beating up Jews.
I’m sure if they’d realized it was an arab they wouldn’t have beat him.
