[VIDEO LINKS BELOW] President Shimon Peres on Tuesday phoned IDF officials operating in Haiti, praising their tireless live-saving efforts that are ongoing.

The president stated the devastating earthquake which struck Haiti reached the hearts of the international community, and the response of the Israeli team is being seen around the globe. Mr. Peres added that the efforts of the Israel Defense Force is not just to protect Israel’s interests, but the Humanity Defense Force, responding to the call of the hour, traveling to the other side of the world to deliver assistance as is our way.

The IDF field hospital continues to be the major medical facility operating in Haiti, with an emergency room, surgical suites, an array of high-tech diagnostic and treatment equipment – permitting physicians and surgeons to do their utmost to save lives in the disaster struck area. The field hospital, the largest operating in Haiti, is capable of treating 500 patients daily.
