In what is being hailed a “historic decision”, the Haifa District Court on Wednesday, 3 Adar 5777, has ordered the shutting of the controversial ammonia tank. An appeal filed by Haifa Chemicals was rejected by the court on Wednesday, deciding that tank must be emptied no later than April 1, 2017. The court has also prohibited permitting additional ammonia ships to enter the area.
Haifa Mayor Yona Yahav applauded the court’s ruling, praising Justice Tamar Sharon-Netanel. He called her decision “brave and historic”, citing how the tank places over 500,000 residents in perilous danger.
