Rabbonim Shlita: Don’t Move Barzilai Kevarim

After Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Sunday turned to the cabinet for approval to usurp the decision of Deputy Health Minister Yaakov Litzman regarding the kevarim at Barzilai Hospital in Ashkelon, Gedolei Yisrael Shlita came out with a kol korei questioning how one dares to move the kevarim to permit construction of the emergency room when an alternative venue for the structure exists.

Signing the kol korei were HaGaon HaRav Yosef Sholom Elyashiv Shlita, HaGaon HaRav Shmuel Halevy Wosner Shlita and HaGaon HaRav Nissim Karelitz Shlita. The rabbonim referred to the p’sak halacha from 5769, in which they stated moving the bones from the site is absolutely forbidden.

Realizing the government is now entertaining such a move, the gedolei yisrael felt the need to renew the p’sak and sign once again, HaMevaser reports.

  1. Two questions:
    1. Are they or are they not Jewish bones?
    2. Haven’t bones of chasuva yidden been moved from Europe to be reburied in ERETZ YISROEL?

  2. Volvie:
There are other Chashuv Rabbonim who are saying its not Jewish bones.

Sorry but I don’t trust these press releases Bshem Rav Elyashiv anymore. Unless you personally discuss an issue with him you have no idea what he was told and what he said back.
