Syria Provides Scuds to Hizbullah

According to a Kuwaiti report, Syria has recently provided Hizbullah with Scud missiles with a range of 300 kilometers (180 miles). According to Defense Minister Ehud Barak, such a move represents a shift of power, with the terrorist army now in possession of missiles capable of carrying a biological or chemical warhead. This in addition to the anti-aircraft rockets already in Hizbullah’s arsenal, creating new realities regarding the IAF operating over S. Lebanon.

Israeli intelligence officials reports that since the Second Lebanon War in 2006, Hizbullah has acquired tens of thousands of rockets, and the latest delivery of Scuds are capable of delivering a chemical warhead into the heart of Israel. Officials add that chemical weaponry has been furnished by Iran, and members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard are instructing Hizbullah fighters in their use.

Israel has informed American officials of the alarming reality, which Jerusalem interprets as heightened hostility, apparently resulting in an admonition from the US administration to Damascus. Israel has also informed the United Nations of the latest violation of Security Council Resolution 1701, the Second Lebanon War ceasefire agreement compelling Hizbullah to disarm.

Some intelligence experts in Israel report that if Israel launches a military offensive against Iran, Hizbullah will strike as well, adding the northern border between Israel, Lebanon and Syria to the warfare.
