MK Orlev Seeks to Expel Tel Aviv Principal

It has been a number of months but Tel Aviv principal Ram Cohen is back in the media, once again at the center of a storm – encouraging his students to “protest the ongoing occupation” when serving in the IDF.

Back in January, Cohen was in the news for encouraging his students to defy orders when it comes to serving in the “occupied West Bank”, espousing his radical left-wing views freely to his students.

In January, MK (Yisrael Beitenu) Alex Miller turned to Tel Aviv Mayor Ron Huldai to oust Cohen, as was reported by YWN-Israel. He called for the same action against the principal as Defense Minister Ehud Barak took against Rabbi Eliezer Melamed, expelling Yeshivat Hesder Har Bracha from the hesder network. Miller also turned to MK (Bayit HaYehudi) Zevulun Orlev in his capacity as chairman of the Knesset Education Committee, seeking to convene the committee in urgent session.

In this latest incident, MK Orlev has voiced his call to oust Cohen, who continues to organize visits of IDF checkpoints throughout Yehuda and Shomron – but not to enhance their understanding and permit them to arrive at their own conclusions, but trips organized by the radical Machsom Watch, one of the extremist groups linked to the infamous Goldstone Report and the New Israel Fund.

In January, Cohen issued a diluted form of an apology, which was more of an explanation, and he was reprimanded by the Ministry of Education but remains at the helm of a Tel Aviv school.
