Rav Ben-Dahan to Leave his Senior Rabbinical Courts Post


Longtime veteran of the Rabbinical Courts system Rabbi Eli Ben-Dahan, who has been serving as the director of the courts for over two decades, will be compelled to step down.

The Dayanim Appointments Committee has decided the director of the rabbinical courts from here on in will serve a four-year term, and will be eligible for one extension of two-to-four years.

The committee decided that the time has come to request that Dahan step down, and he will end his tenure on Rosh Chodesh Elul. The decision was not unanimous, but it was decided that Ben-Dahan will be replaced. As such, Justice Minister Prof. Yaakov Ne’eman will be appointing a committee to search for suitable candidates to replace the veteran senior official.

Taking part in the meeting were the Chief Rabbonim Shlita, ministers including Eli Yishai and MKs including Moshe Gafne.
