NYT: U.S. Intel Suspects Chinese Firms Discussed Covert Arms Transfers to Iran via Third Countries

U.S. intelligence officials believe Chinese companies discussed covert weapons shipments to Iran through third-party countries, including at least one in Africa, in an effort to conceal the origin of the arms, The New York Times reports.

• Officials said it remains unclear whether any weapons were ultimately delivered, though no Chinese-made weapons have reportedly been used against U.S. or Israeli forces since the war with Iran began in late February.

• According to the report, U.S. intelligence previously suggested China may have transferred MANPADS shoulder-fired missiles to Iran and explored additional weapons transfers.

• U.S. officials also said China has continued providing Iran with intelligence support, satellite tracking assistance, and dual-use components used in drone and missile production.
