A Waymo self-driving taxi avoided a potentially serious collision on the 10 Freeway in Los Angeles, according to dashcam footage shared by the company’s co-CEO. The crash was reportedly caused by street racing and showed an out-of-control car slamming into a freeway wall before stopping in the middle of the road.

The approaching Waymo vehicle then safely maneuvered around the disabled car, avoiding impact. Waymo co-CEO Dmitri Dolgov said the driverless taxi detected the danger early and “maneuvered defensively to safely bypass the scene.”
