Channel 12 reports that Israeli intelligence assessments presented to senior officials in recent days indicate Iran’s Supreme Leader Mojtaba Khamenei does not intend to reach a final agreement with the United States and approved the framework agreement primarily to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and provide the regime with an economic boost, not to reach understandings on the nuclear issue.
Israeli security officials reportedly warned the political leadership that Iran is likely to drag out the negotiations and that the proposed 60-day talks could last far longer. One senior security official said it would be surprising if Iran did not use every effort and tactic available to shorten its nuclear breakout timeline under the cover of the talks.
Israel requested to review the memorandum of understanding being negotiated with Iran but was denied. An Israeli official acknowledged a trust gap between Jerusalem and Washington, saying U.S. officials fear details of the document could be leaked before it is signed.
