Coastal Storm Expected to Bring Rain to NYC This Weekend


A Coastal low pressure system is approaching the New York City area this weekend.  The current forecast models indicate a primarily rain event, with a chance of light snow mixing in during overnight hours.  No significant snowfall is expected.  There is a concern for the possibility of coastal flooding during the high tide cycles.

PRECIPITATION/TIMING
Light snow is expected to start late Friday night into Saturday morning before changing over to all rain Saturday morning.  Light to moderate rain is expected Saturday and into the overnight hours.  Rain and snow may mix during the overnight hours Saturday night into Sunday morning before changing back to rain and finally tapering off Sunday morning.
Total rainfall of  to 1  inches are possible.  Any snow that falls will be light; there is a chance of up to an inch of snow late Friday night into Saturday before precipitation turns to all rain.  Maximum rainfall rates of  inch per hour are possible Saturday afternoon and evening. Frozen precipitation is not expected with this system.

WINDS
Saturday: East wind at 10-15 MPH, and increasing in the evening to 15-20 MPH with gusts of 25-35 MPH
Sunday: North wind at 15-20 MPH
