NYC Hospital Buying 2 Westchester Hospitals


emergencyMontefiore Medical Center in the Bronx is acquiring two financially-strapped Westchester County hospitals.

Officials say the New York facility is buying Sound Shore Medical Center in New Rochelle and its sister facility, Mount Vernon Hospital.

The hospital says it will assume certain liabilities and provide funding while Sound Shore healthy System files for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection.

The acquisition must be approved by bankruptcy court and the state health department.

Details of the deal weren’t disclosed. The Westchester facilities will continue to operate until the transaction is completed by the end of the year.

Montefiore recently also purchased the bankrupt New York Westchester Square Medical Center.
