Eating Ices/Ice Cream

There is a huge discussion in the poskim whether or not to consider ices a liquid or a food item. The difference would be that if it is a liquid then one must eat it very fast in order to make a beracha achrona (In about a minutes time). However, if it is a food item then one may eat it up to nine minutes according to some poskim. Since it is a huge dispute, one should either eat the ices quickly, and recite the beracha achrona, or take a different food with is obligated in a beracha achrona and have the ices in mind. In regard to ice cream it would seem that it has the din of a food item rather than a liquid. However, if one licks the ice cream no beracha achrona is recited since the correct shiur was not eaten in the allotted amount of time.
