Copenhagen’s Double Standard

The incident involving Lt.-Colonel Shalom Eisner dominated the local media this week as well as earning a prominent spot in the foreign media’s reports on events in Israel.

It is no secret that when it comes to Israel there is a double standard, and what may be permitted elsewhere in the world elicits condemnatory statements from the international community when it occurs within the borders of Israel.

In addition, the case in point led to slight diplomatic tensions between Israel and Denmark as Danish Ambassador to Israel Liselotte Plesner spoke with Foreign Ministry officials seeking “clarification” as well as Danish Foreign Minister Villy Søvndal quickly releasing a statement committing to provide any and all assistance to the injured International Solidarity Movement victim.

Following is a Youtube video showing Danish police in action. Quite a stark contradiction to the policies one might expect following the statements heard from senior Danish officials this week regarding Eisner and his actions.

  1. It shows how a protest in Denmark was treated by their police and it makes Israel look like an amateur at reacting to hostile foreigners.
