Because obviously if you are trying to defend a Minhag that some see as violent and brutal (in the way it is currently carried out), the most logical thing to do is act in a violent and brutal manner.[sarcasm = for those who can’t tell]

According to a report at JDN (http://www.jdn.co.il/news/561927), the animal rights people set off tear gas in the direction of the Haredim during their protest action, causing someone there to require medical treatment. If that is so, that explains the extreme reaction in response.
I am not justifying it, but context beyond the video is needed.
They steal the chickens. I’ve seen pictures of it that they posted on their facebook groups.
This video is of animal activists who stole chickens and tried to drive off with them were being attempted to stop their theft and force them to return the stolen chickens in their car before they drove off and disappeared.
If they really were concerned about rights being violated, they would protest in Tel-Aviv about the way women are treated there.
If these ‘activists’ are keeping themselves occupied with “animal rights” on a small scale rather than with Big issues ,we’re all the better off .
We should maybe pay them to keep going
