VIDEO: NY Knicks Basketball Athlete, Amare Stoudemire Talks About His Visit To Israel & His ‘Jewish Roots’ While Wearing A Yarmulka


New York Knicks Basketball athlete, Amare Stoudemire, just spent one week visiting Israel to explore his Jewish heritage.

Stoudemire told The Associated Press on Friday that he believes he has “Hebrew roots” through his mother, Carrie.

The 6-foot-10 forward signed a five-year, $100 million contract with the Knicks three weeks ago. He spent his first eight NBA seasons with the Phoenix Suns.

  2. someone explain to him the mitzvah of maaser so a couple of yeshivas can get split the $10 million in masser money.

  3. Actually, if you count paternal ancestry, and are willing to go back to the time of the Avos, everyone is probably Jewish (and probably everything else as well). Halachically, we’ld say that they are typically non-Jews of Jewish descent. There might be some outliers who you would have to go back a few more generations (relative to the Avos), but not many.

    The attractiveness of Darwinian theory in the late 19th and 20th century was it allowed for regarding people you didn’t like as being “different” or “inferior”, whereas if you hold that everyone is descended from Noach, all the people you can’t stand are simply disagreeable cousins.

  4. He didn’t even answer if his mother was Jewish. And he said he would observe all the holidays unless he had a basketball game. Can someone tell him that’s not how this works?
