IDF Division Commander Arrives to Arrange Razing Ulpana Homes

According to MK Katz, the senior IDF officer was acting as a personal emissary of Defense Minister Ehud Barak.

Amid government promises to find a solution, IDF Brigadier-General Chaggai Mordechai arrived in Beit El on Wednesday, 9 Sivan 5772, to meet with the head of the local government, Moshe Rosenbaum. Mordechai is the Yehuda & Shomron Division commander. The senior military commander arrived to discuss the issues that must be addressed ahead of razing the homes in the community’s Ulpana neighborhood.

According to reports, the senior officer left with the understanding that the resistance to any attempt to oust residents and destroy their homes will be met with resistance that will dwarf what was seen at Amona six years ago.

Ichud HaLeumi MK and a founding member of Beit El MK Yaakov Katz released a statement that he is confident that Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu will make good on his statements that the destruction of the homes is simply a gezeira that the public cannot endure, promising a solution before the court-imposed deadline.

Katz believes that Mordechai was sent by Defense Minister Ehud Barak and the meeting may not necessarily reflect the view of the cabinet.

On Tuesday, 8 Sivan, former residents of Amona launched a hunger strike outside a Jerusalem government office demanding the cabinet find a solution to prevent the destruction of additional Jewish homes.

  1. Interesting. If there were more Jews in the army, resistance might be less futile. While more Hareidim wouldn’t help with the war against the Muslims, it might make the government more reluctant to tear down Jewish homes for fear that the Jews in the army would rally for the defense of the homes of their fellow Jews.

  2. Netanyahu swore at the fresh graves of Etta and Efrayim Tzur that this neighbourhood would never ever be evacuated. If this goes ahead then he will be yet again exposed as a man with no honour, and unfit to hold public office.

  3. Ehud Barak… absolute, conclusive, indisputable PROOF that being a great soldier is NOT EVEN THE SLIGHTEST PROOF that one will be even a mediocre political leader.

He IS proof of what is known as the “Peter Principle”, i.e. that one “rises to his level of INcompetence”, i.e. if one is good at a job, he is given a promotion. If he is good at THAT job, he is given yet another promotion. When he gets to a job that he is NOT good at, THAT is where he stays.
