BORUCH DAYAN EMMES: Petira Of Hagon Rav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz ZATZAL

1:40PM EST: YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of Maran Hagon Rav Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz ZATZAL.

Yidden around the globe had been Davening for the Rosh Yeshiva – who was rushed to Shaarei Tzedek hospital after collapsing late Shabbos afternoon. He was placed on a respirator and was in extremly critical condition until his Petira – just a few moments ago.

Rav Lefkowitz, who was 97-years-old, had been staying in Katamon (Yerushalayim) since last Monday, reportedly to rest. He collapsed during Shalosh Seudos, and was taken to the hospital by MDA Paramedics and Ichud Hatzolah.

Rav Michel Yehuda ZATZAL, was one of the Gedolei Hador, and was one of the biggest Talmidim of Rav Shlomo Heiman ZATZAL, and learned under the Chazon Ish after arriving in Eretz Yisroel.

For more than 50 years he served as Rosh Yeshiva of Yeshivas Ponovezh L’Tzeirim, teaching thousands upon thousands of Talmidim

Rav Michel Yehudah was a member of the Moetzes Gedolei HaTorah of Degel Hatorah, and was the person who  released the Chiddushei Rav Shlomo, the Shiurim of Rav Shlomo Heiman.

  1. OY GEVALT!!
    What is happening to us?
    We need our Gedolim.
please be mispalel L’KAYEM BANU CHACHMEI YISRAEL !!

  2. BDE. It is said that Hashem takes the righteous back home (to the olem ha’emes) so they do not have to witness the painful and brutal upcoming events. Perhaps it is time for all of us to go back home (to E.Y.) as well.

  3. Boruch Dayan Ha’emes. I find it very interesting that within a month that a certain magazine profiled the 6 oldest gedolim alive, 2 of them are no longer with us. Maybe certain things are better left unsaid ( and unpublished)

  4. This is a big loss for Klal Yisrael.

May his memory serve as a beacon of Torah and Yiddishkeit for future generations.

  5. I was walking with a friend from sem last year and someone pointed out to us a whole entourage of men and said that in the middle was R’ Michel Yehuda Lefkowitz. we only got a tiny glimpse of his face, but was we saw was shining with the brilliance of torah.

    baruch dayan haemes.

  6. just wondering out loud that the “shtern” a yiddeshe magazine from this month wrote about the 4 oldest gdoilim one was rav koppelman who passed away last week and the second one was rav lefkowitz. maybe it made a eiyin harah?

  7. I agree 100% with #3 & #7.
We live in a rediculous era of “sensational journalism.” Never by unz yidden did we have a concept of writing an article about gedolim when they are still alive.
We need to stop taking our journalistic style from the umos haolam.

  8. Correction: Levaya at 11:00 from Ponoviz Yeshiva.
Rav Elyasiv Shlita (being to weak to attend Levaya in Bnei Brak Tuesday), went to Hospital where R’ M.Y. was niftar and was melaveh the niftar out of the hospital on his way to Bnei Brak where he will be buried tomorrow.

  9. I happened to read only this Shabbos the magazine about the 6 oldest gedolei yisroel, after Rav Koppelman Zatzal was nifter and two days before R’ M.Y. Zatzal was nifter! What has happened to Ayin Horoh, frum magazines don’t believe in it? May the other gedolei yisroel of our generation live ad meah vesrim sonoh gezunteheit!
