Yishai Calls on Mofaz to Enter Emergency Cabinet

Deputy Prime Minister and Shas leader Eli Yishai phoned Shaul Mofaz to congratulate him on his victory in the Kadima Party leadership race. Yishai took advantage of the opportunity and called on Mofaz to enter into the coalition to form and emergency government.

Yishai told the media that he explained to the new Kadima leader that we are in turbulent times and the current administration has to make a number of critical decisions that are better made with the inclusion of Kadima in the government.

Getting Mofaz and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu to work side-by-side is not impossible, but most unlikely, at least at present as Mofaz’s departure from Likud to join the ranks of Kadima was not what one would call an amicable split. In addition, during recent months, tensions and verbal assaults between the two have risen drastically.

  1. Plus Mofaz probably wants to end up leading a united right-center party, i.e., reversing the Sharon-Olmert-Livni split, reuniting Kadimah and Likud, and taking it over.
