Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Tuesday 24 Elul, in his Jerusalem office, held an induction ceremony for his new military secretary. During that event he made the following comments pertaining to threats facing Israel today.

“This position is very challenging because it is at the nerve center of the State of Israel and the State of Israel is closely involved in very many things that are happening in the world and which are constantly challenging us. There are still those who are threatening to destroy us but we have built defensive capabilities. This is the most significant thing that we have created here.

The state is an expression, first and foremost, of the sovereign ability to defend ourselves. This responsibility falls first on the government of the state, the military and the other security services.

The Glory of Israel will not lie (Shmuel Aleph 15:29) if the People of Israel are ready to fight; it will be stronger than our enemies. I think that you have understood this very well. You did this directly and with integrity and sensitivity. We need people who are committed to ensuring the security of Israel over any personal consideration. This is the test of a commander and of a leader. I think that you showed abilities as a commander and leader. I wish you a successful command at one of our two biggest fronts.”

Outgoing Military Secretary Maj.-Gen. Eyal Zamir told the Prime Minister “You are at the top vis-à-vis overall responsibility for the security and lives of people in the most threatened country on earth, in a complex and changing regional and global security reality. I thank you for your confidence, backing and guidance. I learned much from you and am convinced that I am taking with me much that will help me in the future.”

Incoming Military Secretary Brig.-Gen. Eliezer Toledano added “This is a very significant day for me. Mr. Prime Minister, I thank you for the confidence. It is a great responsibility to serve the State of Israel from here in Jerusalem, close to the Prime Minister’s desk. I am aware of the great responsibility and the commitment. I will do my utmost to be deserving every day.”
