The Knesset Interior and Environmental Affairs Committees on Wednesday, 6 Adar-II voted to resume the fluorination of the nation’s drinking water. While the vote passed some committee members appealed and this compels another vote. The bill is expected to pass the revote as well.
Water Authority officials are opposed for they explain there is much controversy surrounding the benefits of fluoride in drinking water and the regulation would compel everyone to use fluoridated water, even those who are opposed. The new regulation was initiated by Health Minister Yaakov Litzman.
Former Health Minister (Yesh Atid) Yael German is counted among the opponents. During her tenure she eliminated the fluoridation plan. She explains just as the nation cannot compel parents to vaccinate their children, the national cannot compel citizens to drink fluorinated water since it is controversial.
