Hundreds of El Al Passengers Heading to Israel Stuck in LA

elalHundreds of El Al passengers were stuck in the airport in Los Angeles as they waited over nine hours for their flight on Monday. Flight 006 to Tel Aviv was scheduled for takeoff at 1:30PM but hours later, the flight was yet to leave the airport.

Anger passengers report they were not offered a hotel and the airline was lagging in responding to questions and updating them as to the cause of the delay and just when they would be departing. They were told the flight was delayed due to a technical issue.

For the many kosher consumers among the passengers, the food vouchers given out for use in the airport did little to alleviate their hunger problem.

  1. Whats the big deal…anyone who flies overseas regularly knows that international flights are subject to extended delays since the airlines don’t typically have “spare” planes to fill in for those with mechanical issues. (A plane flying over water must have very specific configurations and equipment). Further, any ben torah who goes to the airport without a least a day’s worth of kosher survival food is totally lacking in common sense. Finally, in LAX you have to be brain dead not to be creative in using voucher to purchase fresh fruit etc.

  2. I agree with most of the points “Gadolharorah” makes but why is he/she always so combative “lacking in common sense …… brain dead”. What does disparging fellow Yidden add to the discussion? Being stuck in an airport for many hours is a big deal especialy if you have young kids in tow and even if you have food. I always take extra food with me when I travel as you never know when the kosher food ordered may be unfortunatly not loaded or the plane may be delayed or have to make an unscheduled stop enroute. However in a city with a large Jewish population such as Los Angeles, with its many kosher eateries, surely El Al could have brought in some kosher eats, even if only sandwiches. This would have been a good opportunity for El Al to put into practice its oft repeated claim that it values and looks after its observant passnegers.
