Rav Aviner Speaks Out Against Photo On Back Of IDF Rabbinate Haggadah Which Has Female IDF Soldiers

HaRav Shlomo HaKohen Aviner has spoken out against the photo appearing on the rear of the IDF Rabbinate’s new Haggadah, a photo of both female and male soldiers seated side-by-side for Seder.

When Rav Aviner, Rosh Yeshivat Ateret Kohanim was asked what troubled him, he responded that he saw the illustration showing male and female soldiers seated around the Seder Plate together. He questioned rhetorically if this is acceptable, responding “it certainly is not”.

In his teshuva addressing the Haggadah, the rav says the photo is without a doubt unacceptable, citing “On Pesach we were freed, not national freedom, but also spiritual freedom, freedom from sin. The Pesach Haggadah is just the opposite of Pesach.”

  1. We had no problems with pictures of women prior to ~10-15 years ago.
We now assur cartoons of women.
Mixed seating at social events (not davening), albeit not boy-girl-boy-girl, was not at all uncommon in the frum community just a few decades ago.
    We now assur it.
To what end? Assuring women won’t elevate men’s kedusha, kavanah, or avoidance of sin. If anything, it makes it worse.
    Stop the insanity.
