High Court Rejects Appeal of Degel and Shas To Push Off Elections in Elad

The High Court ruled on Sunday regarding a petition brought in front of the court to push off the municipal election for the city of Elad. The petition was submitted by the political factions of Degel Hatorah and Shas.

Judge Dafna Barak-Erez said that the reasoning behind the request is not one that would qualify it as being unusual. “Having a candidate disqualified after the point where party lists had to be handed in, is not something unusual and therefore does not warrant the pushing off of elections.”

The court also ruled that those who submitted the petition would have to pay for the cost of the legal proceedings which equals almost 20,000 NIS total, or 10,000 NIS per party.

In less than 24 hours the 22,000 residents of Elad who can vote may go to the polls and choose between a number of different parties, but only two choices for Mayor, Yisroel Porush and Barak Tzabari.

As of yet it is unclear where the two parties will place their support now that Pindrus is no longer running.
