In light of intensifying conscription efforts and the arrests of yeshiva bochurim, Gedolei Yisroel have called for massive atzeros tefillah to be held in cities and towns across the country this Thursday.
Harav Dov Landau shlit”a and Harav Moshe Hillel Hirsch shlit”a issued a joint letter urging Klal Yisroel to gather b’rabim and cry out in tefillah and tachanunim to annul the decrees threatening the olam hatorah.
According to the plan, instead of one massive atzeres in Yerushalayim, there will be simultaneous gatherings held “b’rochovos ha’ir” throughout the country.
This follows the historic gathering of Gedolei Yisroel — both Litvish and Chassidish — in Ma’aleh HaChamisha, where it was proclaimed that Thursday would be a yom tefillah for all of Klal Yisroel.
In their announcement, the Gedolim called to dedicate Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul as a full yom tefillah and hisorerus. Every individual is asked to add special tefillos, do teshuvah, work on middos, and increase their limud Torah, so that the gezeirah should be torn up. As part of the day, there is a call for bitul melachah, with Yidden refraining from regular work unless absolutely compelled by an employer. From the age of fifteen and up, all who are able should fast for half the day, while those who cannot fast should do a pidyon with tzedakah. Yidden in chutz la’aretz are likewise urged to join in fasting, giving tzedakah, and davening, so that together Klal Yisroel will cry out to Hashem to annul the decree and bring rachamim and yeshuah.
The Badatz of the Eidah HaChareidis likewise issued a public call to dedicate Erev Rosh Chodesh Elul as a yom tefillah, urging all who are able to fast a half-day and to daven for the removal of the harsh gezeirah.

My heart is with them. I barely have money and I still threw what I could at Keren Olam Hatorah, because on rosh hashana at the very least I’ll have proved that I align myself with the correct side, and hopefully when the barkers and mockers fall ill be far away from it
They want people to refrain from work? That’s every day! What makes this day from all other days?
Idk if I’d call it a gezeras shmad. The secular just want to see things being fair. And when you see hundreds of boys walking in Geulah during seder you figure why the heck is that kid free to have a good time while mine is in Gaza?
If yeshivos want exemptions they should run like an army. Take attendance, if not on time boy must write a 5 page chabura, give bechinos, etc. Point is run a yeshiva like an army
Thousands of dati yeshiva students fight in the IDF, to put their Torah into practice and help Klal Yisrael. Meanwhile fhe burden on the reservists is immense, destroying jobs and families, because of the manpower shortage.
I challenge anyone that puts down all these Yeshiva Boys to even try to do one single day of what they do 8 hours or more of learning. My guess is you give up after an hour and that’s learning on a 7th grade level probably
@rebEmes (talk about Lashon Sagi Nahor) – I did, for a number of years – Yeshiva, then Kolel – and no, I did not spend my time in the coffee room (ask my Chavrusos…). I have no issue calling out those who twist Torah into a shovel to dig with – or even worse, into a cudgel to beat others over the head with. Chosamo shel HKB”H Emes – it would behoove those who are leading the Chareidi community to keep this in mind.
YWN has censored my original response to this article (which cited Torah-based arguments, but ones that were not in line with the YWN “narrative”), but hopefully they’ll be fair-minded enough to let this one through.
