Supreme Court Issues Another Decree On Bnei Torah: Thousands To Lose Bituach Leumi Subsidies

The Supreme Court on Monday ruled in favor of the petition submitted by a left-wing organization against the continued subsidy of National Insurance (Bituach Leumi) payments for bnei yeshivos deemed “draft dodgers.”

The decision stipulates that the state must announce within 30 days how long the adjustment period for cessation of the subsidy will last.

The petition was filed last January following the Supreme Court ruling that “it is illegal” for the government to provide subsidies for bnei yeshivos.

The petition claimed that “the continued granting of the benefit lacks legal authority and harms the principle of equality since according to the Supreme Court ruling, the government is not authorized to economically incentivize evasion of enlistment in the IDF. Therefore, the National Insurance Law should be interpreted so that the benefit is given only to those who are not required to enlist.”

Last week, Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara announced that, according to her position, those who did not serve in the IDF should not be entitled to a discount on National Insurance payments.

  1. It’s a good thing that the Arabs aren’t getting all these goodies, oh wait they are. Nice terror attack from our good neighbors today enjoying Israeli health and all the benefits they keep taking away from these poor learners. The state will continue to waste all its money on ammunition and defense instead

  2. Men who study Torah are not entitled to any assistance from the government but Hamas terrorists/murderes of children and women are entitled gourmet meals in prison. Olam Haphuch!!!! This is the Supreme Court of the “Jewish” State.

  3. Since this blog is American (even though there are Israeli contributors), please write “Israeli Supreme Court”, when referring to that joke of a body, rather than simply “Supreme Court”; the latter implies American given that it’s being written on an American site.

  4. It’s a democracic country so I guess if it’s the will of the people as represented by the AG, then who are we to say?
BTW the inventor of democracy was killed by a majority vote.

  5. It’s amazing that people are trying to convince learners to go out and fight for a country where the Supreme Court and judicial system serves the terrorists and antagonizes Jewish citizens. If you ask me not even one secular person should serve. How could you serve in armed forces for a place that doesn’t have your back? Logic would say that’s idiotic
