A Pasadena, California, police officer was shot and wounded by a fellow officer during what the department is calling “horseplay. Body and dashcam footage of the incident was released this week, more than nine months after the incident took place.
The incident occurred on Sept. 7, 2025, as officers were preparing to begin their shift at the parking structure at 240 Ramona Street.
In the opening footage, the wounded officer and a colleague are seen smiling and leaning against the back of a police SUV. The footage shows a patrol car pulling up behind two officers standing near another vehicle.
What happened next unfolded in seconds. One of the officers standing outside drew his firearm in “quick draw” fashion and pointed it at the approaching officer, then returned it to his holster. The seated officer then drew his own weapon, which discharged, sending a round through his windshield and into the left shoulder of the officer standing outside.
The video was recorded by a camera in the vehicle driven by the officer who fired, and it does not capture the moment he pulled the trigger.
The chief said the wounded officer has since recovered and that disciplinary action has been taken. The officers involved, whom Harris did not identify by name or rank, have been disciplined, and he warned that horseplay and a failure to follow safety rules would not be tolerated.
