CENTCOM: 55 Ships Transit Strait Of Hormuz Despite Iranian Closure Claim

Following Iran’s announcement that the Strait of Hormuz is shut due to what it claimed were U.S.-Israeli violations of the Lebanon ceasefire, CENTCOM released a statement saying commercial ship traffic through the strategic waterway increased on June 20 as U.S. forces continued operating in the area to support freedom of navigation.

CENTCOM said safe passage remained intact, with 55 merchant vessels transiting the Strait and transporting more than 17 million barrels of oil and large volumes of cargo to global markets.
