TONIGHT – Boro Park Chaveirim to Offer Free Car Inspections

chav.jpgOn the eve of the mass exodus to the Catskills & other vacation resorts, the Chaveirim Volunteer Organization will be offering free car inspections – open to the public – this evening in Boro Park.

The event will take place at the Pergament parking lot, at the corner of 13th Ave and 37th Street in Boro Park, from 8:00PM – 10:00PM.

YWN spoke with Mr. Aaron Yitzchok Cohen, founder of Chaveirim who told us that many people have safety issues with their vehicles, and by getting a simple, few minute inspection may save them the heart-ace of breaking down on a highway. “An item as simple as having too much air in a tire can result in a blow-out after loading the car with your summer belongings”, Cohen said.

Additionally, there will be three volunteer neighborhood mechanics on hand to advise folks how to proceed with any serious issues found.

Boro Park Shomrim units will be directing traffic, and everyone is requested to enter from 14th Avenue and 36th Street to assure that everyone gets their vehicles checked in a timely manner.

More than 30 items will be checked on each vehicle – in under a few minutes, and brief instruction and safety tips will be given to each driver. For example, many people do not know where their spare-tire is located in many new minivans.

The Misaskim organization has graciously given their heavy-duty lighting and generator equipment to allow the mechanics and Chaveirim Volunteers to work in the evening hours.

Chaveirim would like to thank Pergament, Misaskim, Shomrim, and the NYPD for their assistance in coordinating this event.

To reach Chaveirim’s 24hr hotline in the Catskill’s this summer, please call 718-431-8181.

(NOTE: This is not a DMV inspection, but a safety inspection.)

  1. I must say, as someone who does not live in the tri-state area and tend to see some of the negatives of the tristate areas, i must hand it to some of these jewish insitutions who are always, and i mean ALWAYS on the lookout to help their fellow jew. 2. Are they giving out official inspection stickers so that you can save the money and not have to go down to a mechanic shop when it expires?

  3. Will they also be issuing inspection stickers for free?

  4. NOTE: This is not a DMV inspection, but a safety inspection.)
