I’m going to leave it for the other Mods to see. Sometime we wonder if, and what the purpose would be for posting things, especially new threads.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677259

Moish, I saw the article too, but I am not sure the Mods want to start a topic about it in the CR.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677257

I know nothing about it. Ask other mods. It could be that the nature of the posts were not in line with the rules (i.e. on topic, proper grammar, etc.).

I know there has been a movement to follow the rules more closely.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677256

hey moderator, can i ask you a question? or do i have to email you to get through?

Personally, I have yet to reply to an e-mail. I do not think I am the lone moderator who does not send outgoing e-mails. If I can, I’ll give it a try.

What’s the question? If I cannot answer it (or I cannot even post it) I will let you know here

How dya know all that U.K info?

I’ll give you one guess. Oh, and Don’t mention the War. I mentioned it once, but I think I got away with it

in reply to: “Free” Night in the Ramada New Yorker (only pay taxes) #639585

do you not mean to spell “neighbors” with a “U”?

in reply to: Welcome YW Moderator-39 #639213

So I heard the moderators are tough, is that true? I guess ill have to see for myself (hope I won’t have to lol)

You have been here for all of seven hours, and you have already heard that? From whom? (Or, have you been here before?)

Can you list topic names? This would make me laugh too 🙂

Would want to run that by the YW Editor to make sure I am not violating anything by doing so (namely: Loshon Hara)

However, I am fairly certain I can give you a peak at two:

    1. Calvin & Hobbes on the Bailout (a link to a comic)

    2. get yourself kicked out of the CR (do i need to divulge why this wasn’t posted)

We could do a weekly award of “Most foolish post, topic started etc.” but that would only encourage “them”

in reply to: Funny or Interesting Vanity Plates #700596

I figured, but didnt want to deprive everyone if it were allowed. I hope you enjoyed it at least 🙂

Sorry, wasn’t my thing. What really makes me laugh is the topics people try to start that get deleted. I have no clue what (and if) they are thinking

in reply to: Funny or Interesting Vanity Plates #700595

The absolutely WORST license plate to have:

    NOTAG

One guy who had this on his motorcycles was once mailed hundreds if not thousands of tickets. Why? When a car does not have a license plate the officers write on the ticket “NoTag”

in reply to: Funny or Interesting Vanity Plates #700590

SJS, you are correct, it isn’t YWN appropriate

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677236

sorry to bum you guys, but I gotta bail now

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677234

sorry, only updates when I hit refresh. Kind of hit or miss. The quick ones happen after we approve or delete, and the list immediately reloads

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677229

here as requested. Not sure for how long though

in reply to: A Humorous Item #1172513

Why must we converse in 13 different topics? Why can’t we just talk in one place? Do you have virtual ADD?

42, nice to see you here at this hour

    This post is from JayMatt19

If a person (or family) want to make the sacrifice for Torah, because they know that to be the Ikar, who has the right to tell them not to, because he isn’t “the best or brightest”. We all have different levels and different nissyonos. I don’t need some guy in a hat and beard deciding whose Torah is more valuable.

JayMatt19 – I cut and pasted your post and put it here. I wouldv’e just edited it but I guess I still new at this and deleted it completely. – Sorry!

    I’m still new!

in reply to: YWN Coffee Room Nightly D’Var Torah #1123826

Jmatt: and why are we losing previous posters, and not getting new recruits? (I could leave choose to leave the CR you know!)

1st you compliment me for being 1 of the 3 who gave on Monday (when I had not yet been in the Coffee Room 24 hours!) Now you say nobody new gives? YOU CANNOT BE SERIOUS!

I use eDealinfo (which also has a UK site!). I also use flyertalk for travel.

Lets try to keep this on topic, though

in reply to: “Free” Night in the Ramada New Yorker (only pay taxes) #639580

Josh – Paying taxes would mean MAYBE paying $50 on a $300 room. I fail to see how you calculated your figure.

Joseph- Word of mouth amongst friends who are doing it. Thought I’d share it with other frum people who might need a break pre/post pesach.

What’s Fatwallet? some type of deal site?

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677137

squeak, which issue of “The Economist” did you copy and paste that from?

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677135

teen, that would not be accurate. Look at the Pound via-a-vis the dollar. vis-a-vis the Euro, vis-a-vis the shequel, vis-a-vis the Canadian Dollar and you’ll see that, in fact, the Pound has, unfortunately, decreased in value.

Typical Americans, think everything only revolve around themselves, or their currency

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677130

    Firstly, 3.8 litres = 1 gallon

Secondly, it isn’t the summer. The Pound has fallen to 1.447

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677129

British humour. did not expect you to get it

    1) Bloody Taxes

    2) We have no oil. Denmark is the envy of Europe, they are the only European Country which EXPORTS oil.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677119

Did think it was funny that all you Whiny American were complaining about the price of Petrol (gas), We pay close to a bloody $5.50 a gallon (99 pence per litre)

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677115

Saw it in 2000 squeak. But the only thing that was left out was that Election Day will be renamed Indecisive Day

How could it be the “leader of the free world” started out by dumping tea in a river?

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677106

South Africa was once part of the Empire, as was Australia. There was also this large body of land on the other side of the pond, but we won’t discuss that

    Great joke about “The Stimulus”.

How about some Celery? (If there weren’t a Kashrus issue, I’d say raisins too)

Anyone get a free room yet?

    Anyone care?

in reply to: Women Wearing Costumes on Purim? #1008036

    from the Kof-K website:

Why do we dress in costume on Purim?

There are those who find an allusion to the story of Purim in the Torah. Hashemsaid VeAnoche Hastair Astir Es Paneye, and I will hide My face perhaps alluding tothis story. Hashem was not clearly visible to the Jews, and no obvious miracles werewrought on their behalf. Just as Hashem was hidden so are we hidden this day.

Rosh Yeshiva, your math was off

in reply to: A Humorous Item #1172452

Teaching Math in 1950: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in 1960: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is 4/5 of the price, or $80. What is his profit?

Teaching Math in 1970: A logger exchanges a set “L” of lumber for a set “M” of money. The cardinality of set “M” is 100. Each element is worth one dollar. Make 100 dots representing the elements of the set “M.” The set “C”, the cost of production contains 20 fewer points than set “M.” Represent the set “C” as a subset of set “M” and answer the following question: What is the cardinality of the set “P” of profits?

Teaching Math in 1980: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $80 and his profit is $20. Your assignment: Underline the number 20.

Teaching Math in 1990: By cutting down beautiful forest trees, the Logger makes $20. What do you think of this way of making a living? Topic for class participation after answering the question: How did the forest birds and squirrels feel as the logger cut down the trees? There are no wrong answers.

Teaching Math in 2000: A logger sells a truckload of lumber for $100. His cost of production is $120. How does Arthur Andersen determine that his profit margin is $6000?

Teaching Math in 2014: Un hachero vende una carretada de maderapara $100. El costo de la producciones es $80. Cuanto dinero ha hecho?

This isn’t a road test. We don’t give reasons why something isn’t approved before deleting. But most are self-explanatory.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677052

thanks for the welcome. We could beef up the numbers by allowing all previously deleted posts here. But Trust Me, Nobody Wants That To Happen

why straws? how else do you fairly decide a conflict with more than 4 people? The drew straws to see who would be 1st to go on the moon!

    great question qwertyuiop.

The “place” where we approve posts has 2 tabs. “posts” and “topics”. New topics get their own section, and can only be approved in that section. Funny thing is, whenever we approve or delete posts, it refreshes with the list of new posts!! So getting aroung to the topics takes time.

in reply to: General Shmooze 2 #677031
