“As charedim become a larger and larger share of the Israeli population, charedim do need to take responsibility for the defense of the country. Otherwise the Arab rashaim will overrun everything and anyone who thinks that torah study will prevent that should look at the example of Eastern Europe in the 1940s”
You might want to try checking what haskalah and reform were doing at that time before insinuating that Torah alone cannot protect us. I’m not saying that the army should not exist, but anyone who can learn should.
Maybe not all, but most boys yeshivas that are giving off for a month pesach and 2 1/2 weeks sukkos have the boys there over shabbos as well (sleep-away). They also get little more than 2 weeks summer vacation.
Is there something wrong with that? I can assure you I stand to gain nothing from it, I have just 1 copy than I plan on keeping for a long time, just trying to give some good advice which in this case happens to be to buy something
In many cases when a school requires something like that it is more so that they’ll have backup to punish those who are abusing said thing (internet etc.) than to actually forbid it.
It might not be such a good idea to get a phone in Israel they cost around double their cost in the US. Many carriers will unlock an existing phone you have still in service with them if you tell them you will be outside the US and want to use the phone with an international carrier, though you must make sure it has a slot for a sim card (any 4g capable phone will have a sim card slot)
If anyone wants a whole lot of real good jokes try to buy a copy of “the encyclopedia of Jewish humor” it goes for around 5 bucks on amazon. It’s a 1970’s era book a lot of them only Jewish because the characters are. I’d say pretty clean too, there are maybe 3 jokes in the whole (few hundred page) book I wouldn’t tell my own mother
HeHeHe good one
I think the question being addressed here is need vs potential danger. I think that all will agree by shoes that “need” wins
Not so much to them as to their points
can my subtitle be “couldn’t think of a more original title”, no need to actually post this, but if you do include the last part about not posting it and the part about posting that part etc..
While of course cell phones can be used for good, there is plenty of potential bad as well. For those who are asking why it’s worse than a home phone, it’s because they alone can be reached at their cell. If someone a teen doesn’t want their parents to know they are dealing with wants to reach them, they can’t call a home phone. Also, for those saying “you have to know you’re kid”, EVERY kid has nisyonos that they have to fight, but not necessarily all the time, if they can get instant “gratification” they may go for it, but if it would be hard and take a while, the nisayon can die down. And yes, there are many boys who don’t have the guts to talk to a girl, but can easily text, especially when (in some cases) it’s done anonymously. I don’t think anyone thinks that the rule is that cellphones make kids go off the derech, but they can help a lot at almost every step along the way. Also, what can be done on cellphones can definitely cause the “decision” to go off. (I know this post looks like a bunch of random unconnected thoughts, but I read a lot of this thread and am trying to reply to a bunch of different people/thought processes)
