None of the major “frum” dailies, weeklies or monthlies that I know of have any Rov vetting what they print to insure everything going to print is kosher. Most of what they write should be assumed to be Daas Balebatim and has no presumption of being correct.

Rav Avigdor Miller on The Universal G-d

Q: Is it possible for a Muslim or a Christian to love Hashem?

A: It depends on what he is loving. I must tell you that it makes a very big difference what the gentile is thinking when he talks about his god. When somebody wants to talk about a certain personality, a G-d, he has to know that the personality must be designated by a certain description. And that designation makes all the difference in the world.

Suppose you want to bring a gift to somebody, but you don’t know who you’re bringing it to, so you bring it to the man next door. It might be a beautiful gift, but you brought it to the wrong address. So when people pray to a god that spoke to Mohammed, then they’re praying to the wrong god, because there is no such god. If they declare that “Allah is god and Mohammed is his prophet,” they’re taking about a different god that doesn’t exist.

If people pray to a god that that was supposedly born from a mother, then they’re talking about something that doesn’t exist. And therefore they are idolaters, or at best they’re praying to zero, to something that doesn’t exist. They get no reward at all. They’re not loving Hashem, they’re praying to nothing, to a made-up god.

Prayer is only real prayer if it’s directed at השם אלוקי ישראל. And that’s the Rambam’s statement. It says that the חסידי אומות העולם, the righteous gentiles, have a share in the World to Come. However, the Rambam says that they must recognize that Hashem is the אלוקי ישראל – He is the G-d of Yisroel. He has chosen us! He chose the עם ישראל. Only if they believe that, can they be included in the category of חסידי אומות העולם.

Pharaoh was willing to believe in Hashem when Moshe came to him, but he wasn’t willing to believe in השם אלוקי ישראל. And that was the big problem! And so Hashem got busy demonstrating not only that He is Hashem, but that He is השם אלוקי ישראל.

And that’s why it’s so important to believe the right things about Hashem. If a Jew believes in a universal god, then he’s not a Jew. Certainly Hashem is the Master of the Universe, but He has declared that the universe was made because of His people, the Am Yisroel. And so, we are the main actor on the stage of history and the entire world is nothing but the backdrop and scenery for us. And no matter how difficult a concept that is for you, you’re going to have to learn it. Because we have to live up to that responsibility! And you can only do that if you realize that we are the main performers in this world, and that Hashem has chosen us, and He has declared that He is השם אלוקי ישראל.

According to the shittas that hold that you should take no action and allow three people to be killed rather than taking action that will instead kill a different two people, would they still hold like that if no action resulted in 100 people being killed while taking action to change the path will kill one person (who is not part of the hundred people)?

Just to put this conversation into perspective, the following were the previous comment that led to this new thread. Note that Toi said his question is the same as mine, but CS said it is a different question. So that sameness/difference can also be addressed. CS can respond to my question separately if she feels it’s a different question than Toi’s.

    ChabadShlucha originally wrote:

…when I was just married and my husband decided to go to kollel cuz that’s what the Rebbe said… So we wrote into the Rebbe and got a letter that said that my husband should learn in a place with a …

[Note that CS has stated she was born after the Rebbe was niftar. Also at Chabad chasunas today they often read a letter that is announced to be that the Rebbe wrote to the newlyweds. The question here being how is a Rebbe that is in Gan Eden giving detailed instructions to the living on what to do.]

    I responded:

What’s this business about you speaking to the Rebbe, writing to the Rebbe, and the Rebbe giving you answers and advice? Do you go to his Ohel for these speaking/writing and find a note from him written upstairs in Shamayim and sent downstairs to you in your mailbox?

    Toi wrote:

I think we’ll all welcome the explanation of how it’s muttar to daven to a mimutzah, unless the Rebbe is Atzmuso Yisborach, like it says in his sicha, in which case we’ve got a much bigger problem.

    ChabadShlucha responded:

Anyhow back to toi, you have a different question than Joseph : his is how today’s lubavitchers maintain hiskashrus, yours is about the role of tzaddikim in general… Not to mention that in your post you are clueless, as the way you understand the Rebbe’s words is completely skewed. Similar maybe, to a goy who sees Jews call themselves the chosen nation, and therefore concludes we must want to treat all goyim like the Nazis did. Completely off…

    Toi wrote:

Joseph’s question and mine are the same for the purpose of this discussion… let us please not confuse chassidus , specifically that of Chabad, with Kabbalah. They are not the same…

funnybone, many doctors like to force patients to come to the office unnecessarily when they could have easily answered the question quickly by phone, without a visit, or just have related basic information because by coming to the office they can bill the insurance and copay.

Gaon, the son did NOT deny it, he said that he didn’t hear it himself. It is a famous quote from Rav Shach, as the fact that the son was even asked about it demonstrates.

ZD: You’re incorrect. Yeshivos and Chadorim are not licensed or approved by the State. They are religious schools or seminaries acting independently from the State and they need no license from the State, as that would be a violation of the separation of Church and State.

The secular studies program of Yeshivos may be state licensed or approved. And they may be subject to state educational regulations. But NOT the morning Limudei Kodesh program or Rebbes. The State has no control, say-so, regulatory control or licensing requirements for the rebbeim and limudei kodesh. Nor can the State educational department inspect or visit the limudei kodesh program. State Educational regulations do not apply to the religious program of the school.

As an aside, even approved/licensed private schools that are subject to the State educational regulations, if they violate those regulations it is a civil regulatory violation that only can result in financial penalties to the school. It is not a criminal matter since those regulations aren’t codified state statues but rather only executive issued regulations.
