No, smoking on Purim is not fine. There is no inyan to smoke on Purim – there is an inyan to drink wine on Purim.

Wait, I have a shaila…. if… (ad the shaila niggun as I ask) we all are anonymous as in a site like YW and we insult ppl and talk abt ppl when we make fun of them, does it hold like Loshon Hara mamish cuz l’maiseh i think no actual harm is done (though there may be an issur of oinaas devarim….) but If I say I think “lkjhgf” (ploni) is a shikkur and has no clue what he’s talking about… we all know maybe who ploni is by screen name but we have no clue in real life so…. is it just not a good habbit or actual LH?

It is certainly not a good habit and is quite possibly loshon harah. Using “chofetzchaim” as an example, even though you don’t know him by face, he does have an identity with a name attached to it so if you make fun of “choftezchaim” you are making fun of an actual person. When he reads the comment, he may feel pain or embarrassment. Furthermore, you may degrade him in the eyes of the other posters and in the future when they see a post by him they might associate it with a different type of person than they used to which would therefore make it loshon hara (IMHO) even though you don’t know him “personally”. Furthermore, there may be people on here who know who he is and when they read a derogatory comment it is certainly loshon hara because he might now be embarrassed the next time he sees these people. Sorry for picking on you “chofetzchaim” and I hope this makes sense.

Maybe the “chofetzchaim” has something to say about this?

FYI Joseph, you used the term “xtians”, the goyim consider “x” to be a symbol for Yushka and it is therefore equivalent to writing “Christians”

Morah brooklyn19, I thought you taught us in Fourth grade 2, not to use run-on sentences and not to procrastinate no matter what even if you don’t feel like following the rules and you are bored in the coffee room and you taught us we should always go back and fix things; and you thought I don’t pay attention in class!

Unfortunately tzippi, many Rebbeim are forced to become collectors because their Yeshivas’ don’t have money. Of course, they would rather be in the Yeshiva teaching and learning but the Yeshiva needs to get money somehow. I think the question qaws is asking is, is it better for the bochurim to take off from their learning or the Rebbeim to take off from their teaching, learning and other responsibilities. The question is whether people will give more to a chashuve Rabbi than to a Yeshiva Bochur. And if so, is it worth it for the Rabbi to take off from his other responsibilities for this purpose. Either way, someone is losing time that could have been spent learning but if no one collects than the Yeshiva might close or have fewer talmidim and less learning will be happening in total.

Interesting thing I noticed: Because Rosh Chodesh is always the day after the 29th of the month (either the 30th or the 1st) and the 29th is the same day of the week as the first so the days of Rosh Chodesh go in order so if Rosh HaShana is a Monday, then R”Ch Cheshvan would be Tuesday and Wednesday, R”Ch Kislev would be Thursday and possibly Friday, etc.

This can make it easier to figure out what day of the week a Yom Tov will be on months in advance assuming you know what day the most recent R”Ch was and how many days each month’s R”Ch has

The basic idea is that anytime you have more than one space between letters (or any other non-space such as numbers or symbols) you have to use a code to get it to show up, otherwise it will show up as one space.

    For instance,

Good Shabbos (typed one space between “Good” and “Shabbos”)

Good Shabbos (typed five spaces between “Good” and “Shabbos”)

Good Shabbos (typed “ ” between “Good” and “Shabbos”)

The way I did it with the donut was that I copied the post into notepad and did chose “Edit->Replace” (CTRL-H) from the menu and replaced all ” ” with “

By the way, I made the &nbps;‘s show up as written instead of as spaces in this post by putting tick marks around them.

charlie brown, I edited your donut on the 1st page to make it work. I guess tick marks don’t work for spaces but html special chars do. All spaces are consolidated into one space unless you use the code “ ” for each one.
