One doesnt have to discuss Rome to discuss people who inherited the throne and were not as competent as their fathers

Rehoboam inherited the throne of Solomon and the kingdom split never to reunite.

The best king of Judea was Hezekiah whose son was Manasseh, the worst

I am trying to get the news reports about this. I looked it up after you posted it. There was very few news reports about it basically Hamodia and a local hudson Valley News source (Lohud or something like that) only Hamodia mentioned they had veto power. I even tried to read the actual bill (Virtually impossible).

Until I can get a complete story from several sources, I will not comment on the compromise (It did seem Hamodia and Lohud differed a bit)

The car question is a metaphor for ANY silly question asked for a Gadol. I dont know if Rav Chaim was asked if someone should by a Honda Accord or a Toyota Camry (I have heard people asking a Shailia which car to buy) . It seems that point was lost and people took it literaly. I can tell you I have heard really silly questions that were easily answerable that people got “Daas Torah” on nonsense that any normal human being could have answered.

As far as Rav Moshe and the Simple Shaila question, yes Ive heard that story, but I have also heard stories where people would ask annoying Shailos and then got the Shammai treatment

The torah Rav Chaim learns is very important to this world, every second is precious and invaluable

You would interrupt his valuable learning to ask him your important shaila if you should buy a Honda Accord, Toyota Camry or a Chevy Malibu?

So is it Daas Torah if someone asks if they should buy a Honda, Toyota or a Chevy (People do ask such things incredibly) and you get an answer

I dont know Avi’s Story about where “Daas Torah” told people to use a certain contractor and he failed

Lets assume this story is true or some version of it (I have heard similar type stories)

How is this related to Yiddishkeit

How is it related to Yiddishkeit of someone asks what kind of car to drive (I dont mean the guy is asking should he drive a Lamborghini, but rather a Honda , Toyota or a Chevy)

That is what it has become to mean. Its not about anymore about asking a Shaila about Halacha (Like can I open a Bakery when there is already a Bagel store) , but about asking “Life Questions” like what kind of car should I drive or who should I hire to paint my house.

When there is a story of Daas Torah that has a good outcome, You belive it

Do you believe stories of Daas Torah where the outcome is bad (Simple example a Rav says to go into a certain business and it fails or says to make a certain shidduch and its a disaster (Like an abuser))

Like I said before I dislike coffee immensely and I cant even stand the smell of it.

However for those who drink coffee, I do feel its very important to support those places who are willing to go the extra mile to service our needs. We need to let others know we are willing to support those businesses that will meet the needs of our community and perhaps encourage others to do so as well

Sometimes Ive been at a hotel with Free Breakfast and there is obviously food.

Ive gone to the waitress and asked to see the package. The Waitress replied OH ITS KOSHER (I never mentioned kosher nor do I really look jewish) but the waitress knew exactly what I really wanted to know.

And these happend not in a paritcually jewish area either.

    People know these things

The Y doesnt seem to have these problem. They dont really advertise that they have it , but everyone knows its there. It not “public” meaning you just cant walk in and use it as far as I know. You have to be a member of the Y to use it.

    He could get fired.

Starbucks is not a franchise, they are company owned and if company rules are a certain rule and they disobey they will get fired

Its only 10 stores that are part of this test and they are in fairly frum areas. (I dont know where Oakhurst and Howell, NJ are) they could go to the local supermarket and get it if need be.

They are out to get customers , not alinate them and I would hope they have a backup what to do if they run out of milk

I dont like coffee as I said before, but a bigger well known name has more of a reason not to decive the customers by doing things like switching the milks.

It is not in their business interest (Money is a big incentive) to do so.

Companies caught doing such things pay a bigger price than what was saved.

The local store does not have the same incentive and the money saved by using the cheaper milk is worth it to them

There is plenty of anti-semitism out there, People who are not hired fob jobs because they are jewish, people who are attacked or killed because they are jewish etc

Howwever to claim anti-semtism every time you dont get what you want, its crying wolf people will not belive you when there really is geniune anti-semitism.

Crying anti-semitism because a pool wont have seperate swimming hours and not the same as someone who is harrassed at a job for “not believing” and wont be “saved”

You might not get the Pool services, but there are other services that you get that others do not.

It really does balance out more than you think.

There is alot of construction in Williamsburg, there is no reason someone cant build a Y and your problem is solved

It is your choice not to go to NYC beaches . The city doesnt need to bend over backwards for you. They many times try to bend over backwards, but they are not required

There are lots of services in the city that some people dont take advantage of, it doenst mean you are exempt from paying for it

“JCC in the Bronx is a private pool, unlike the pool in Williamsburg which is run by the city”

The same civil rights laws regarding public accommodations apply.

The JCC is a private place (Legally it might be called Semi-public ) and they are allowed to make rules that a public place cannot. They can charge for admission, they can say only members can use the pool and they can have seperate swimming hours

And According to The Mayor (NYC Law can Superseed NYS Law) if someone Identifies as a gender different than their anatomy, It is illegal in NYC to discrimate against them, So if a former Olympain decides to go to the williamsburg pool during the female hours, there is nothing anyone can do and it would be mixed swimming according to Halacha

You missed the point. States can have protections for various things that superseed federal law. They just cant have less protections

So it could be in Virginia such a school could be legal, but not legal in New York.

The U.S. Supreme Court ruled in 1996, in United States v. Virginia, that the government may offer single gender public schools.

This would be a New York State law, not a federal law. States are allowed to have laws stricter than federal laws. “Alternate Lifestyles” are not protected under federal law, but they are under New York State law

    “what should be an issue?”

That a pool would have a few hours a week of single sex swimming.

Both JCCs in the Bronx have that.

JCC in the Bronx is a private pool, unlike the pool in Williamsburg which is run by the city

    Geordie

Most chassidic groups in the NYC area are quite large, Some have 50,000 or more followers. It is not logistically possible for the rebbe to have a private study sessions often with all his followers. There arent enough hours in the week for such a thing

Given the fact this is a B’shas H’hack meaning its likely if Halacha is followed to the letter of the law, this couple would either not marry (and live together) or get married in Cyprus. Using the Aruch HaShulchan which forbids it doesnt really make sense

People who are not relgious and maybe even hostile to religion, you cannot force them to do something, you have to try to coax them and find B’di Eveds

If she’ll never go again, why is there such an inyan do make her go before the wedding?

In Israel you can only have a Halachic wedding. The only way not to is to go to Cyprus , Prague or somewhere out of the country.

The Rabbi is trying to navigate to give the couple a proper jewish wedding otherwise there will be no jewish wedding, they will either live in sin or go to cyprus.

I suspect here, there was somthing similar going on, the couple might have refused to make Sheva Brochot and the Rabbi said something like fine you can both say it. In order to get at least the man to say it.

PBA – Wouldn’t surprise me if they asked to say it together to show they are equally being Koneh each other 🙂

Thats what I think. I know sometimes when Rabbis are doing Orthodox wedding for non relgious couple, the issue of the Mikvah comes up and it can be hard to convience the woman to go, so the Rabbi will suggest that they both go in order that the woman will go
