BORUCH DAYAN EMMES: Petira Of The Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Bnei Brak

YWN regrets to inform you of the Petira of the Vizhnitzer Rebbe, HaRav Moshe Yehoshua Hager ZATZAL, just a few moments ago, at the age of 95. The family and close Chassidim were gathered around the Rebbes bedside as they recited Viduy and Krias Shema, and shortly after finishing, the Rebbe returned his Neshama to the Ribono Shel Olam.

The Rebbe was born in Romenia in 1916, to his father, the previous Rebbe, the holy Imrei Chaim. He is survived by his brother, the Vizhnitzer Rebbe of Monsey, and his sons Rav Yisroel, Rav Mendel, and daughters who are married to Rav Menachem Ernster (Rosh Yeshiva of the Vizhnitzer Yeshiva in Bnei Brak), the Satmar Rebbe from Kiryas Yoel, the Belzer Rebbe, and the Rebbitzen of the Skver Rebbe (New Square).

Rav Yisroel Hager has been leading the Bnei Brak Chassidus since the Rebbe became unwell in recent years, while his son Rav Mendel Hager was appointed at the Av Beis Din of the Chassidus.

The Levaya details are not confirmed as of this posting, but sources tell YWN that the Levaya will take place early Wednesday morning in the Bais Medrash in Bnei Brak.

  1. Really saddened to hear this terrible news. I had so many personal issues with the rebbe zt”l, if was such a holy yid, you felt a fear when going in to see him. I agree with no. 1’s comment, everyone should take on something for good, to save our generation

  2. Another link to our past is now gone. We must be mispallel to HKB”H to end this horrible horrible golus which is creating more and more decay within us.
We do not have the gedolim of the previous dor who somehow kept us going.

  3. To No. 2

Perhaps its not the right time to raise your “personal issues” with Rav Hager, Z’TL. Whether you agreed with him or not, he was widely respected among ALL chassidus as a great tzadik and talmid chacham. We are too quickly losing the last few gadolim of the post-war generation of big rabbonim from the alte heim.

  4. The Levaya will iy”h be 1:00pm from Beis Midrush Hagudel in Bnei Brak.
Reports are that the Funeral of Visnitz Rebbe zt”l is expected to be the biggest crowd ever at a funeral in Israel.
There will be no Hespeidim at Levaya – Kenuhig, and the Mitah will iy”h wait at the Beis Hachaim for the Admorim who are coming from NY and all over the world

  5. #6, I think you mis understood #2 comment. In the UK, the term ” personal issues” does not mean problems, the way its translated in the US. It means he had personal dealings. I am from the UK, and I feel a need to clear this one up.

  6. Gadolhadorah- read carefully before you post!!Englishmasmid (#2) was saying he had a “personal connection” with the Rebbe. Even though he wrote he had “Personal Issues” with the Rebbe. To preface this he wrote “really saddened to hear the terrible news” Gadol, you owe Masmid a public apology for your reckless comment.

  7. #6’s post was quite understandable. He had a kneejerk reaction without reading the entire post. #2’s meaning was quite clear from the context, whether one had ever heard the term “personal issues” used that way or not.

I think this is a good lesson in “reading everything before doing anything.”
