Tragedy in Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital in Bnei Brak


candle914A 38-year-old woman who gave birth earlier in the week was found dead in a lavatory in Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital on Thursday, 4 Adar II 5774. The staff did not see the woman and began checking the maternity ward to find her. Her lifeless body was found in a lavatory.

The woman z”l, a member of the chareidi community, gave birth on Monday, to her sixth child. Hospital officials report that she was feeling good since the birth. The hospital notified the Ministry of Health as required by law. An investigation is underway.

Hospital Director Professor Moti Ravid explained to the media that the birth was unremarkable and there were no complications. Two days following the birth she complained of abdominal pain. She was checked by two ob/gyn physicians and a surgeon. He adds that an ultrasound was performed along with other tests but everything was negative and no explanation for the pain was found. On Thursday morning, a few hours before her body was found, she did not have a fever and she was not complaining of pain.

Ravid adds the death rate nationwide is 6-7 for every 100,000 births. In Mayanei HaYeshua Hospital this was the first fatality in over 140,000 births. He explains the staff is shocked and a full investigation is underway.
