Monticello Shooting Suspect Escapes From Police Custody


mpdAt approximately 12:30 AM on Friday, Monticello Police responded to a report of a criminal mischief on spring street in the village of Monticello. While there, a 20 year old Monticello man drove up to that scene and told officers he had been shot. The victim was immediately transported by helicopter to a trauma center. Monticello Police are investigating with the assistance of the New York State Police, Sullivan County District Attorney Office and the Sheriff Office. The location of the shooting incident is unknown at this time and police are investigating several possible locations.

While attending to the gunshot victim, the criminal mischief complainant pointed out a vehicle that near the scene of the original mischief that matched the description of a vehicle that left the scene prior to police arrival. The vehicle was stopped and an individual was detained and taken to the police station for an interview. While officers were occupied with the investigation into the gunshot, the criminal mischief suspect left the police station.

No one has been charged and no weapons were recovered. Both investigations are ongoing and police encourage anyone with information regarding these matters to call Monticello Police at (845) 794-4422. All information will be kept confidential.
