YOU’RE FIRED! Newsweek Fires Reporter That Said Trump Was Golfing & Tweeting On Thanksgiving

A Newsweek reporter was fired over her story that incorrectly claimed President Trump spent Thanksgiving golfing and tweeting, when he in fact made an unannounced secret trip to visit the troops in Afghanistan.

Jessica Kwong published the story on Thanksgiving morning with the headline, “How is Trump spending Thanksgiving? Tweeting, golfing and more.”

In a statement, Newsweek told the Washington Examiner that its story has been fully corrected, Kwong “has been terminated,” and that it would take further action if an investigation proves it necessary.

Newsweek investigated the failures that led to the publication of the inaccurate report that President Trump spent Thanksgiving tweeting and golfing rather than visiting troops in Afghanistan. The story has been corrected, and the journalist responsible has been terminated. We will continue to review our processes and, if required, take further action.

On Friday, Trump himself responded to the botched story by mocking Newsweek.

  1. Kol hakovod to Newsweek for dismissing this journalist for a clearly false story. Now, if only the other media outlets who daily publish the Trumpopf’s obvious lies and distortions as if somehow they had a scintilla of truth. The few Fox reporters and newscasters who had the chutzpah to call out the Trumpkopf’s lies (e..g. Shep Smith) are leaving or being forced out. Even Tucker Carlson the other night acknowledged on air that Trump is a “compulsive liar” and “full blown XX Artist” but then proceeded to justify it by saying everyone knew that when they voted for him etc.

  2. I don’t think this was “fake news.” I think this was just old-fashioned laziness. The writer didn’t want to bother checking up because of the holiday, so he just filed what he assumed the President would be doing, in line with what he usually does – golf and tweet.

No plot here – just old-fashioned negligence. I’m glad they fired the person. Not that I’m a Trump fan, but he just wasn’t doing his job, and in an area in which any mistake is going to blow up.
