Gang Targets Charedi Students In Manchester

hate crimes3.jpgStudents from a Frum school in Manchester were attacked by a racist gang as they returned from an afternoon swim on Sunday. The group of 20 seven- to 14-year-olds from Yeshivas Ohr Torah, had spent the afternoon at Broughton Pool, ten minutes’ walk away.

As they returned home, they were approached by a gang of around eight youths and subjected to antisemitic taunts.

Then one of the gang began lashing out, kicking and slapping some of the boys. None of the boys was seriously hurt but a school spokeswoman said: “They were rather shaken up by it.”

The incident raised concerns about safety on trips to the pools, which are a short walk from the main Jewish area in Manchester, she added. “Maybe in future they will take a minibus.”

Local police superintendent Lior Giladi was “appalled by this attack on young children. Even more worryingly, it appears to have been racially motivated”.

He added: “Local officers are working hard to find those responsible, and patrols have been stepped up.

  1. Gosh! I walked past them just a minute before this must have happened, they had a couple of Rebbes with them too and the Menahel of the Yeshiva Ketana – they looked so happy!

  2. I must just note that as this is a yeshiva Ketana there wouldn’t have been any children under the age of eleven there! seven and eleven can be confused I know.

  3. Actually probably what my mother calls – white trash, the middle Easterns here are quite nice and friendly, the rotten ones are rare and unlikely to hang around in groups of that size. The area they were in is known for it’s white low-life!

  4. My Gosh!! My son (older than these kids)is there in Yeshiva! I left Manchester nearly 30 years ago because of rising anti-semitism, but I figured that older Bochurim would be safer. But it’s very worrying if these kids had adults with them.

My son says he’s gotten “the finger” quite a few times this Z’man, but no trouble. I think I’ll send him some Mace.

Problem is, the British are far more concerned with appeasing the Muslim terrorists than looking after Jews. That hasn’t changed. I am so glad I took out US citizenship. Meanwhile, I suggest that other frum yidden do what I did…RUN!!

  5. Bestbubby – are you suggesting there is never any anti semitism in the U.S.?
Has noone ever been attacked in Lakewood and have Nazi symbols never been daubed in Passaic? Come on, we are in Golus and we have to realise that.
Incidentally, any parent who allows a child to walk in the area of Broughton baths is most irresponsible, even with a rebbe who is also no match for these yobs whether white or middle eastern

  6. Does that mean that I am irresponsible as I walk there often – in the early morning – to go to the dentist?! (Or to catch the bus when I’ve missed a previoous one)
The area is not nice, true, but a group of boys accompanied by their Rebbes ought to have been safe from physical abuse, this was an unusual occurence.
