NJ Senator Menendez Calls Trump’s Attack on LeBron James Racist

New Jersey Democratic U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez says President Donald Trump’s attack on NBA star LeBron James is part of a larger pattern of racist behavior.

Menendez wrote in a tweet Monday that Trump wouldn’t have questioned James’ intelligence or charity work if he were white. Trump criticized James on Friday after an interview aired with CNN anchor Don Lemon in which he deemed Trump divisive.

Menendez tweeted out a thread that included references to Trump’s disparaging remarks about Mexican immigrants during his campaign kickoff speech for the Republican presidential nomination and the president’s repeated claim that California Democratic Rep. Maxine Waters, who is black, is “low IQ.”

Menendez has been a vocal opponent of the Trump administration’s immigration policies. The two-term senator is in a tough re-election battle against Republican Bob Hugin.

The White House didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

  1. Obviously it was racist, but thats the norm for the Trumpkopf. Even his own wife spit in his face a few hours afterwards by praising James’ efforts in the school program he supports in Akron Ohio and expressed a hope to visit. Same for his daughter a day later who spoke of her admiration for James.

  2. @gadolhatorah.. K if u wanna tell me that Trump isn’t the nicest guy on the planet then fine. But in this context THIS HAS ABSOLUTELY NOTHING TO DO WITH RACISM! HE LITERALLY SAYS “I LIKE MIKE” (WHO IS ALSO BLACK) IN THE SAME TWEET. IT’S VERY SIMPLE, YOU ATTACK TRUMP AND HE’LL ATTACK YOU BACK. END OF STORY! k now i can go back to no caps lock. [I’m not actually mad btw]

  3. Bob – you’re Not one to talk – Why didn’t they try you again in court?
From previous – First of all, Athletic Blacks should work on Stopping Violence in inner city communties. Just making one school, in just one city, doesn’t cut it!
2nd of all, it isn’t Trump who started with racial divide in our times, it was Obama!

  4. Whether or not Mr. Trump’s attack on Mr. James is racist, the attack is evidence of the president’s underutilized intelligence (which is my pompous and polite way of saying “stupid”). Mr. Trump’s attack on Mr. James is utterly without merit, and thoroughly malicious. Mr. Trump did not use the n-word, but one can express racism without it.

  5. And, just to be clear about my prejudices, I like Menendez’s politics, but he should have been convicted in that trial a few months back and removed from office.
