Rush Limbaugh Sounds Off About NYC; Mentions Simcha Felder

rush.jpgRUSH: Ladies and gentlemen, as you know (and I have mentioned this before) I had a fashionable apartment in New York in the Upper East Side.  I’m seriously considering selling it.  I have owned it since 1994.  I love it.  It was second home that I ever bought in my life. I stay there when I am rarely in New York.  I am “rarely” in New York because I get audited by New York State and City every year starting in 1997, when I moved to Florida; and it’s become a hassle that I could tolerate, but it may now become stupid to own any property there.

“Mayor Michael Bloomberg is going to cut the city work force by 3,000, but that’s just the beginning of the pain New Yorkers will feel as part of the fiscal crisis. A slew of new taxes are also on the agenda. There will be 1,000 fewer cops…” Now, listen to this — and this is a liberal mayor. This is a blue city. This is Bloomberg. He’s an independent. He was a Republican, but he chose Republican only to get elected after Giuliani left.  “There will be 1,000 fewer cops but the city will hire 200 more traffic agents to give out $60 million a year in new [parking] tickets.”  They’re laying off cops and adding meter maids.  The quality of life in New York is just going to blossom, isn’t it?  Lay off a thousand cops and hire 200 more traffic agents for the purposes of collecting $60 a year in “block-the-box tickets”?

“‘The gravity of the budget situation requires us to propose both deep spending cuts and revenue increases,’ Bloomberg said. The spending cuts mean reducing the city work force. The revenue increases mean taxes — lots of taxes.   In the current fiscal year there’s the 7 percent property tax hike that starts in January — and the plan to renege on a promised $400 property tax rebate. ‘I think the people of the city are going to be enraged,’ City Councilman Simcha Felder, D-Brooklyn, said.” No, they won’t.  If they haven’t been enraged by what’s happened to them all this time, why is this going to enrage them?  But if they want to drive people out of there, I’ll be the first to lead the way.  I only go there, as it is now, a maximum 20 working days a year, because of these silly audits.

“I think the people of the city are going to be enraged,” says this Democrat from Brooklyn. “‘They’ve been told the check is in the mail on the rebate.'” Uh, the operative word here is, “promised.” The operative word here is promised.  The property tax rebate of 400 bucks is gone — and if you in New York think all this is bad, just wait ’til you get hammered with Obama’s tax increases on top of this.  Oh!  Oh!  Oh!  By the way, “The mayor proposed raising the income tax by either 7.5 percent or 15 percent.” I can guess which one it’s going to be. “A 7.5 percent a taxpayer making up between $50,000 and $75,000 would pay an additional $116. At 15 percent that same taxpayer would pony up an extra $233.  ‘When people are suffering to tell them too bad you might suffer even more next year is telling them to eat cake next year,'” said the Brooklyn Democrat. “Added Councilman Lewis Fidler, D-Brooklyn: ‘Nobody likes to raise taxes…'” Baloney!  Democrat liberals love to raise taxes!  Thank you, ladies and gentlemen. Thank you. You’re all going, “Yeah! Right on, Rush! Thank you.”  Liberal Democrats (liberals period) love raising taxes.  Don’t give me this “nobody likes to raise taxes” garbage.  This is Lewis Fidler, Democrat, Brooklyn.

“[I]t’s not something I’m planning on doing unless I’m absolutely sure we’ve exhausted every other reasonable resource.”  Hey, ahem. Have you tried cutting spending?  “Oh, we’re going to cut the spending, Mr. Limbaugh. We’re going to lay off a thousand cops.”  Oh, that’s right. Are you sure you got no other area in that city budget that you can cut other than to lay off a thousand peace officers? And you think that these tax increases are going to help the city, Mr. Mayor?  You have another thing coming.  Ask what happens to your subway when they raise fares.  But that’s just New York City.

Governor Schwarzenegger, California, “will propose one day a month unpaid furloughs for state workers for the next 17 months as well as rescinding two of the state workers’ 13 paid holidays, sources said this morning.  The governor is scheduled to unveil his proposals this morning for closing a budget deficit that could be as big as $11.2 billion for the fiscal year that started July 1st, another $13 billion in the next fiscal year.” So blue states and blue cities are in deep trouble.  Again, those of you in California, add to the new taxes and whatever else you’re going to get out there, Obama’s federal tax increases.

  1. The title of the book about Rush, penned by Al Franken, says it all about this guy. It only goes to show one can fool too many people too much of the time. He knows if he took calls with any opposing views or debated special guests, his exaggerated rants would not be bought by those impressed with style but no substance. Not that Mr. Limberger has any style, either. Mr. Faulty “Bending the Facts” Conclusion is no Bob Grant or Mike Savage.

  2. #1, the only time I can say he is correct and I agree with him is this week. John McCain should step in and stop his campaign personnel from mercilessly slandering Sarah Palin regarding alleged events during the campaign.

  3. I usually don’t say anything about the editorial choices of what to post and what not to post. But it seems the only reason to post this is that Limbaugh mentions Simcha Felder. Frankly, who cares? Does it really reflect important new for the Yeshiva World that it merits posting on theyeshivaworld.com?

  4. #2: Limbaugh is very shrewd and a pretty intelligent observer of the political world. He is one of the best spokesman for the conservative movement, which, l’havdil is the closest thing idealogically to Yiddishkeit in terms of personal responsibility, the sanctity of life, a moral code and other values. Why do I mention it? Because in a world that is at war with decency and all that Yiddishkeit stands for, we should have some recognition of those who are trying to stem the tide of degradation.

Having said that, Limbaugh quite capable of being wrong and of being quite a blowhard on some topics.

Agav, since the election Tuesday, I have stopped listening to all talk radio. It seems to me that the election is a message from Hashem, reminding us that He is absolutely in charge and can arrange any outcome He desires, even the most insane and unlikely kind. All our obsession with political talk is a distraction from our mission of recognizing that ONLY HASHEM rules the world.

  5. #5, I have to strongly disagree with the point, especially, about comparing Limbaugh to anything in Yiddishkeit. He is a womanizer for starters and from there his views are not truthful, even though you appreciate his posturing and attitude.

#6, Of course. And what is unusual about that? I dont want to just be exposed to views and ideas that mirror my own. If one lends an ear to significant voices in our culture, it does not mean one will adopt those views. This is largely the difference between education and conditioning.

  6. veryinteresting, I see your point. But I still can’t bring myself to read/ listen to people like Rush Limbaugh & Ann Coulter. I do read the Wall Street Journal editorial page; the staff editorials & regular columnists, are all conservative, except for Thomas Frank (In fact, I learned from the WSJ editorial page that Obama would be even worse for the country than FDR–oh, the humanity). I also read most of the conservative syndicated columnists such as Krauthammer & Will.

I do agree that Sarah Palin is being scapegoated for McCain’s defeat, which is unfair because her selection helped the campaign.

  7. veryintresting, before you call rush a “womanizer” do a little research into the al franken whose books you’re reading, and some of the other things he’s written.

and #5 didn’t say rush is the perfect jew, just that his views our closer to ours than the democrats on:
    toevah marriage
    killing children
negotiating with those who want to “wipe israel off the map”
    “spreading the wealth”
    etc.

  8. #11, anon for this.

I want to make clear that I TRY to listen to Limbaugh. There are times I just have to push the preset because he justifies his opinions, which are popular among his minions, with faulty reasoning and genuine distortions of the facts.

I agree with you that the treatment of Palin is despicable. She was the most true and genuine candidate among the four of them, in my opinion.

  9. veryinteresting:

“I have to strongly disagree with the point, especially, about comparing Limbaugh to anything in Yiddishkeit. He is a womanizer for starters and from there his views are not truthful, even though you appreciate his posturing and attitude.”

Not very interesting. He is not a womanizer, but was married several times. Please tell me what views of his are “not truthful”. Either way, your point is misguided in the sense that the conservative philosophy he espouses is the closest thing, and I say carefully, l’havdil, to our way of thinking that you can find in the secular political sphere. I am not saying its Torah, I’m just saying, let us not condemn those who are least laboring to preserve what good is left in the velt.

  10. El Rushbo is a tool of the GOP. One would need to be on heavy drugs to keep telling million of listeners that the war in iraq is good thing and we are winning. Our economic mess proves that we lost. 12 billion a month for 5 years is a lot of money this country could have used. Instead we brought democracy to people who don’t want it and hate us. Rush is such a tool.

  11. Anyone who doesn’t think well of rush is obviously formulating his/her opinion based on other people’s slandering. The worst you can say about him is he is a baal gayvoh. But who really cares – some find that aspect quite entertaining.

He was on prescribed pain killers for a time and became addicted to them. He was not what you call a “drug addict” stealing from old ladies to get high. Some of ours are unfortunately addicted to things like alcohol and tobacco which are classified as drugs… we don’t say they’re druggies.
Conservative views are, by far, the closest thing in the goyishe velt to our views as #14 has already espoused.

Lastly, do you think Clinton was a “womanizer” or just rush. Who cares. Rush loves Isreal, the Jews and hates Islamofacists – and so do I!! so i find that I have quite a bit in common with this guy. Listen to him and you’ll agree with what he stands for if you have a strong foundation in Yiddishkeit.
